Elderman Gathering 2026

Boho South
19/06/2026 5:00 pm - 21/06/2026 3:00 pm

You are invited to the second Victorian Elderman Gathering.

Our vision is a world where Elders and Eldering are valued as Guardians of what is important and sacred in life; where maturity is appreciated and celebrated; and where caring for our Family, Community & Country in older age is the natural way of ourselves and our culture.

Like life itself, we understand that Elderhood is not a place that we arrive at, it is not the peak of a mountain that we stand upon and gaze down on the rest of the world, it is a state of humility and emergence.

Intention

The intention of the Elderman Gathering is to create a space where we can celebrate eldering & support each other to boldly step beyond ourselves and embrace our roles as carers, guides & guardians of our Communities, Culture & Country.

Themes

Some of the themes we imagine arising at the Gathering include:

  • What is it to be an elder?
  • To whom am I eldering?
  • What are the aspects and qualities eldership invites us to cultivate?
  • What would a culture that celebrates eldership look like?
  • How could a culture of eldering re-shape our world?
  • How do we best guide those who come after us?
  • How do we invite the role of mentoring across the life span?
  • How can we best support a pathway into eldership for others?
  • What help & support do we need on our journeys through leadership?
  • What is our legacy & the space we want to leave behind for those who will follow us?
  • What is most important in life & how do we both guard & share the sacred with others?

Format

The Elderman Gathering follows the same self-organising principles used at ‘Everyman’ Gatherings.

Every man brings food to contribute to communal cooking, and takes responsibility for collective cleaning.

While the organising circle will coordinate an Opening Ceremony, Heart Space & Closing Ceremony, the rest of the format will be organically self-organising within set time-slots & will include a mixture of workshops, discussions, sharing circles, group activities & more determined by those who attend with gifts & opportunities they would like to share in these spaces.

Logistics

    • Arrive from 5 pm onwards for dinner;
    • Opening Ceremony at 8 pm, Friday 19th June;
    • Closing Circle completed by 3 pm Sunday, 21st June;
    • Accommodation
      • shared rooms (BYO bedding) – camping also available;
      • a limited number of single and single-ensuite rooms are available for men with specific medical needs. Please call Scott 07 3067 3449 Monday-Wednesday to book.

Preparation

In preparation for the event, we recommend contemplating the values, capacities and questions raised in the article “Towards Eldering”, written by Cash Ahenakew from the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Group of Canada.
