September and Spring are a time of renewal, of fresh beginnings, new life, vitality and movement forward. It is a time when nature energy at The Rock wilderness retreat at Mt Byron awakens and spreads her wings to welcome us.
Join us for the annual BEDROCK GATHERING at The Rock, hosted by the Mens Wellbeing Elders, from September 11 – 14.
and honouring the Spirit of The Rock
BEDROCK is a gathering for up to 50 men, flowing at a smoother, less-hurried pace than some of our bigger gatherings and with enough structure to keep things focused … and discussions often going very deep.
From early-morning meditation circles to open the day, to generic workshops around Eldering and men’s work themes and night-time discussions around the fire. All well-nourished by James Baird and his marvellous kitchen crew delivering legendary meals.

Because of its nature, it is a gathering not just for ‘Elders’ but also for any men with some experience of men’s work. It is highly encouraged to have done either the Mens Wellbeing Common Ground groupwork, one of our other large gatherings, or had some foundation in other types of men’s work … to understand the culture and common protocols we use. These will be explained also.
If you go to register, there will be some simple questions on the form for self-reflection on your preparedness for Bedrock.
This is also a gathering that presents an opportunity for men who have felt a call to step up to Eldership Initiation, to explore this sacred calling of service, the journey and what it might entail for them. Likewise there are a few prerequisites and guidelines for initiation as a Mens Wellbeing Elder that will be discussed.
This year we will be exploring the theme “The Sacred Path of Eldership”, exploring its meaning and how different men live it, through stories and reflections of the Eldership journey from men of our Elder community.

The Rock has been the spiritual home of Bedrock since the gathering’s inception in 2015, and many consider it to also be the spiritual home of Mens Wellbeing and Powerhouse Programs. So we will acknowledge and honour how The Rock has held and nurtured the men’s community over the past two decades, with stories and with ceremony.
And just for clarity … it is definitely NOT the end of the Bedrock Gathering!
Most of all, Bedrock is an opportunity to sit ‘in circle’ with like-minded men, in a stunningly beautiful natural environment with no ‘to-do’ list, no obligations, and freedom to do nothing if you wish! Explore what matters most to you in the company of men each inspired in their own unique way.
It is the kind of gathering where insight, clarity and peace emerge out of the sounds of nature and the easy-going pace of sharing between the hearts of men. Bring your music, your poetry, your curiosity, your sense of humour and your desire to live your truth. Plan to share it all!

We have not given the address of the Rock on this web page because we don’t want to fool you – it is not easy to find if you have not been out there before!
The road into our campsite is not suitable for vehicles with low clearance. But do not be dismayed, you may car-pool, or you may join our Muster
.
We run a muster from the corner of Mount Byron and Wivenhoe-Somerset Roads. You can indicate you are joining the muster when you book your ticket, and details of the muster will be finalised in the week prior to the event and communicated by email.
Drivers of 2WD vehicles with low clearance will be able to leave their vehicles at a safe place on the way in and will be ferried to the campsite by 4WD. Note that mobile phone coverage ends when you leave Wivehoe-Somerset Road.
The Rock offers three forms of accommodation and you will need to choose when you book.
The Cliff House – a small, split-level cabin with a wood heater and single bunk beds. You will need to bring your own bedding.
The Bunk House – single bunk beds protected from the weather by a steel roof and canvas walls. You will need to bring your own bedding.
The Campsite – you will need to bring everything!
A head torch is recommended for getting around after dark. An easy-to-carry camp-chair is recommended for men who find sitting on the ground (or getting up again) a challenge.
There is no mains electricity.
The is little to no mobile phone coverage from Telstra and none from other carriers. There is a phone for emergencies in the Cliff House.
