We have just launched a fundraising campaign for the future maintenance of our Rock bush retreat.
The Rock is at Mt Byron, north-west of Brisbane. This wonderful bush retreat is used as a general retreat for families and groups, for “rites of passage” camps, for “inner work” camps and it is the home of our Bedrock men’s gathering to name a few. The site contains a remarkable pole house perched above a creek and the most extraordinary bush kitchen built into actual boulders, not to mention the round-house, bunk-house and camping grounds. This property requires a significant amount of volunteer work to maintain and there are often hard costs associated with this.
In 2020-21 Men’s Wellbeing won a grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund that enabled both the replacement of a large shade structure at the bush kitchen and a substantial upgrade of the solar power systems on the site. Recent works not included by the grant include a complete rebuild of the round-house, replacement of irrigation piping and the acquisition of two new 95 litre, 12 volt fridges that are to be used in the pole-house and in the bush kitchen. Works in the immediate future are pumping of the house septic tank and some earthmoving roadworks to improve vehicle access to the property (last graded in 2015).
To offset the costs of maintaining this extraordinary property Men’s Wellbeing are making a call for donations, our target is $10,000. Donations are tax deductible and all funds pledged for this property will be held in an account specifically to cover these expenses.
